Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) is set to make a significant stride in women’s cricket by organizing its own professional tournament. Despite producing talented cricketers, the association had not previously hosted a women’s cricket event. Now, with the rising popularity of women’s cricket and an increasing number of girls joining the sport, BCA aims to tap into the talent pool.
Why a Women’s Cricket Tournament?
BCA’s cricket advisory committee (CAC) chairman, Kiran More, emphasized the need to promote talented players through regular tournaments. “The more they play, the more their confidence and skills will improve,” he stated. The association recognizes that Vadodara has abundant cricketing talent waiting to be nurtured
The T20 Format: A Likely Choice
While the nitty-gritty details of the tournament are yet to be finalized, BCA is leaning toward the T20 format. This shorter format allows for exciting matches, encourages aggressive play, and provides a platform for players to showcase their abilities. Earlier, BCA even organized boys versus girls matches in junior cricket, demonstrating their commitment to women’s cricket development.
Preparing Cricketers for the National Side
BCA aims to prepare women cricketers for the national team. Vadodara already boasts two Indian women’s cricket team players—Yastika Bhatia and Radha Yadav. With experienced women cricketers available for coaching and ample grounds, BCA is well-positioned to create a professional cricketing environment.
